In the area of health, the Padre Albino Foundation maintains two hospitals: Padre Albino Hospital and Emílio Carlos Hospital, besides the institution dedicated to assisting the needy named Recanto Monsenhor Albino.

Thus, the Fundação Padre Albino understands that its vocation as a philanthropic entity cannot be alien to the integral academic formation, embodied in the higher quality education that maintains and that it intends to expand. The offer of new course options aims to fulfill the dream of many young people, as well as the creation of community programs.

HISTORY

The PADRE ALBINO UNIVERSITY CENTER (UNIFIPA) is an institution created from the evolution of the Integrated Colleges of the Padre Albino Foundation (FIPA) to expand possibilities and opportunities in the world of work in the Catanduva-SP region. UNIFIPA is maintained by Fundação Padre Albino (FPA), a philanthropic legal entity, founded on March 27, 1968.

Its story is mixed with the story of Monsignor Albino Alves da Cunha e Silva, who died in 1973, who fought and worked to build the heritage of the Catanduva community, which is now the Padre Albino Foundation (FPA). Initially, its concern was with social promotion and with the improvement of the living conditions of the most needly, especially the sick, and this won the support of the community for the construction of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Catanduva, later transformed into Padre Hospital Albino.

Next, the Monseignor directed his work in the education of young people, through the installation of Schools in all degrees and modalities of teaching.

The Foundation has five decades of experience in higher education, with the creation of the Medical School of Catanduva (FAMECA) in 1969. After FAMECA, the Faculty of Business Administration (FAECA) was founded in 1972 and (ESEFIC) in 1973. Later, the Faculty of Nursing of Catanduva (FEC) was created in 2000, the law course in 2002, the Superior Institute of Education Padre Albino (ISE), in 2005. The Fundação Padre Albino also maintains the Catanduva College / Application focused on elementary and secondary education.

As of April 2007, the Faculties of the Padre Albino Foundation have become Faculties Integrated Padre Albino (FIPA), result of the integration of the Higher Institute of Education and the Faculties isolated - Administration, Law, Physical Education, Nursing and Medicine. The normative act of transformation of the Faculties of the Foundation in Integrated Colleges Padre Albino was the Ordinance MEC / SESu nº 301, of 11.04.07, published in the DOU of 12.04.07, by Ordinance nº 53, DOU of 23.01.2013. In 2010, the courses of Physical Education (Bachelor's) and Biomedicine were created, and in 2011, the Pedagogy course.

On December 6, 2017, FIPA was accredited as Padre Albino University Center - UNIFIPA, through order no. 1,519, dated December 5, 2017, with the approval of No. 482/2017 of the Higher Education Chamber of the National Council of Education, published in the Official Gazette of the Union. The entire institution undergoes increasing changes such as expansion of the Campus physical structure, expansion of courses and, consequently, the number of students, besides university autonomy and the pedagogical organizational model. In 2017, the Agronomic Engineering course was implemented and the Accounting Sciences course was created. In 2018, the Pharmacy course was created, which extends the offered health-care grid.

PADRE ALBINO FOUNDATION

The concern for social advancement and the improvement of the living conditions of the most needy, especially sick people, was the starting point for Father Albino Alves da Cunha e Silva to unite Catanduva around his ideal and become his greatest benefactor, building a patrimony that today benefits thousands of people.

His first work was the Santa Casa, now known as Padre Albino Hospital. A man of vision and boldness and thinking of providing his hospital with professionals, also guaranteeing medical assistance to his "poor people," Father Albino decided to create a medical school. The first action taken was the transformation of the Catanduva Beneficent Association, which maintains the Padre Albino Hospital, in the Foundation, to organize the main sponsor of the faculties.

The Padre Albino Foundation was established on March 27, 1968 and on March 29, 1968, the first meeting was held. Even after the death of his patron in 1973, the work was continued through the members of the Board of Trustees, who continue their work with efficiency, seriousness, and transparency. With the vision in the future, but always thinking about the welfare and growth of the people benefited by it, as was the desire of Father Albino.

PADRE ALBINO HOSPITAL

Padre Hospital began its work in 1926. As early as 1930 the building began to be small, as patients from all over the region came in search of recovery.

At the beginning of 1956 the Maternity building was constructed to suit the pregnant women of the city and region. In 1976, in the 50th anniversary of the hospital, the six-story vertical block is inaugurated.

The constant investment made by the Padre Albino Foundation in structure, technology and personnel makes the Padre Albino Hospital a center of reference in procedures of medium and high complexity. Annually, the institution counts more than 12 thousand hospitalizations, only the Urgency and Emergency Unit, serves more than 110 thousand patients.

The "Padre Albino Hospital" has an Emergency and Emergency Unit, Heart Unit, Burn Treatment Unit, Pediatrics, Surgical Center, Pediatric, Neonatal and Adult ICUs, Medical and Surgical Clinics, Ophthalmology Center, Hemodialysis, Analysis Laboratory Clinics, Hemodynamics, Milk Bank, Maternity, Transnational Unit, Obstetric Center, Nuclear Medicine, Lithotripsy, Endoscopy, Ready Care and Diagnostic Imaging Center offering from conventional radiology to the most sophisticated technological resources such as ultrasound, radiology, tomography magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, and densitometry.

Image

The Units of Adult, Infantile and Neonatal and Burned Intensive Therapies have technological resources and multidisciplinary teams composed of highly specialized professionals in the areas of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology and social work.

With approximately 60% of the visits to the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), the Padre Albino Hospital assists patients from Catanduva and region, based on the principle of providing health for all with quality and responsibility, and is a school hospital for medical and Nursing at Padre Albino University Center - UNIFIPA.

EMÍLIO CARLOS HOSPITAL

Image

The son of the couple Emília and Antônio Carlos, Dr. Emílio Carlos, was born in the city of Catiguá, in the state of São Paulo. The lawyer and journalist with good diction acted as announcer of programs of the Portuguese language in the radio BBC of London. Upon returning to Brazil, he was elected a federal deputy.

The death of Emilio Carlos was considered by many as premature. He suffered a myocardial infarction in Brasilia. After his death, his brother, doctor, state deputy and former secretary of state health in the government of President Jânio Quadros, Fauze Carlos, requested that the former tuberculosis hospital, located in Catanduva, be called Hospital Emílio Carlos.

Inaugurated in the 60's, the hospital was exclusively for tuberculosis care. The disease began to be treated outpatient and the number of patients who needed hospitalization decreased to the point where the hospital unit terminated its activities.

The hospital was reactivated on 05/04/83 for outpatient care in different specialties and started to be administered by the Padre Albino Foundation. On 01/27/86, the hospitalization sectors destined to the Brazilian Unified Health System - SUS were implanted. Today, the hospital has 142 hospitalization beds, with 10 beds of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 10 beds for infectious-contagious diseases (IM), two of them being Day Hospital and eight for IM hospitalization. The Hospital is a reference for Catanduva and region, since it has outpatient clinics with 38 offices, distributed in the following areas: Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Clinical Surgery, Clinical Pediatric, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Infectious Diseases, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, General Surgery , Gastroenterology, Head and Neck Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, General Medical Practice, Vascular Clinic, Thoracic Surgery, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Hematology, Genetic Counseling, Infectology, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Obstetrics , Oncology, General Pneumology, Rheumatology, Urology and Geriatrics.

CATANDUVA CÂNCER HOSPITAL

Emílio Carlos Hospital, maintained by the Albino Foundation, is a reference for the population of 19 municipalities and has as a great differential the Chemotherapy Service, with a monthly average of 200 patients. Aiming at improving patient care and comfort, the Padre Albino Foundation has begun the construction of the Radiotherapy Service that, once completed, will become the reference entity in the Oncology Service, future Catanduva Cancer Hospital.

Pedagogy

The pedagogue is a professional who works in fields that require pedagogical knowledge, whether they are school spaces or not, aiming to support and execute this knowledge in different activities. In order to prepare the professional for this market, the Pedagogy Course-UNIFIPA, based on sound and current theoretical principles, uses procedures and strategies more efficient in guiding the construction of knowledge, in order to achieve certain objectives. The objectives are to encourage teachers and students to value knowledge, cultural goods, work and access to them autonomously; to select what is relevant, to investigate, to question and to search; to construct hypotheses, to understand, to reason logically; to compare, to establish relations, to infer and to generalize; to gain confidence in their own ability to think and find solutions, among others. The pedagogical course of UNIFIPA has, as a pedagogical proposal, the articulation of teaching, research and extension as a way to guarantee critical and reflexive teaching in the search for skills and abilities expected for undergraduate students. As differentials, the course still offers:

- Pedagogical Residency: a project that consists of activities designed to promote the opportunity of professional, social and cultural learning, provided to the graduate of pedagogy, through participation

in real situations of life and work and thus has purpose, to insert the licensee into the living reality of the labor market.

- Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarship (PIBID): a program aimed at students who are "in the first half of the undergraduate course", aiming at the integral formation and insertion in the basic education schools, as apprentices.

Our projects

STUDY OF HETEROGENEITY OF MASTOCYTS AND ACTION OF ANNEXIN A1 PROTEIN IN INFLAMMATORY AND TUMOR PROCESSES

Inflammatory and tumor processes depend on the interaction of different cell types with each other and with the extracellular matrix, which leads to changes in the microenvironment, which are fundamental for the healing and tissue repair processes in inflammation and, in the case of tumors, modulating their behavior. Among the inflammatory cells involved, both in inflammation and tumorigenesis, are mastocyts cells, cell types widely distributed throughout connective tissue, which release chemotactic mediators, growth factors and proteases, contributing to matrix degradation, promotion of angiogenesis and tissue remodeling by means of selective proteolysis and activation of metalloproteinases. Investigations also indicate that the anti-inflammatory protein Annexin A1 (ANXA1) has important functions related to the regulation of inflammatory processes, proliferation, migration / invasion and apoptosis, and its effects are mediated by receptors by formylated peptides (FPRs). Therefore, we will analyze the heterogeneity of the MCs in the expression of tryptase and chymase proteases, and evaluate the expression of the ANXA protein, as well as the use of its peptide mimetic (Ac2-26) as a potential therapeutic agent in different inflammatory and tumor conditions. For the studies will be used biopsies of clinical-pathological variables of inflammation and tumors, as well as the development of models of inflammatory and tumor processes in vivo. The data will be obtained by means of physiological, histopathological, immunohistochemical, biochemical and molecular analyzes and statistically compared. The results of these analyzes will contribute to a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in inflammation and tumor biology and may be useful for the development of new therapeutic strategies.

BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY EVALUATION OF NATURAL BIOACTIVE EXTRACTS IN EXPERIMENTAL MODELS

Natural bioactive extracts (NBEs) such as terpenes and flavonoids have demonstrated many biological properties, including inflammation and tumor reduction, immune system stimulation, detoxifying enzymes modulation and steroids metabolism. In Brazil, the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of different clinical conditions is a common practice, and currently some herbal medicines are available in the pharmaceutical public network and in health institutions, which stimulates the development of new investigations on the efficacy of herbal medicines as alternative or adjuvant therapeutics in the treatment of different diseases. Thus, the scientific interest in proving the efficacy of medicinal herbs and developing herbal medicines has increased significantly throughout the world recently. One of the major challenges in developing new drugs is the inhibition or activation of the target without

interfering with normal cellular functions. For this, it is necessary to characterize their actions and establish safe and effective dosages. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the biological activity of different NBEs found in Brazilian flora, in animal models that mimic clinical conditions such as inflammatory, cicatricial and tumoral processes, with possibilities for therapeutic applications.

Understanding morphological and functional aspects of the endothelial microenvironment in patients with Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, affecting one in eight women. Despite the improvement of treatment strategies, this disease has become the focus of numerous scientific articles in order to introduce new techniques, medications and more effective treatments. Endothelial progenitor cells (ECs) provide oxygen and nutrients to tissues. Abnormal growth of blood vessels (angiogenesis) promotes the growth and spread of cancer. Current strategies for inhibiting angiogenesis focused on inhibition of VEGF growth factor. However, the efficacy of this treatment strategy is limited by refractoriness and intrinsic resistance. The present research proposal aims to study the action of endothelial progenitor cells (CEs) (isolated and in their microenvironment) from peripheral blood of patients with breast cancer, in the processes of angiogenesis and cellular metabolism.
